A Day in the Life:

As a Safety Consultant, you will provide professional consulting services to various customers as it pertains to their risk management and safety needs.  All customer needs are unique and vary greatly based on their operations.  You may be asked to assist with OSHA, EPA, DOT, or other regulatory requirements.  Daily activities may also include policy development, training employees, site inspections, or assisting a customer during a regulatory inspections just to name a few.  You will be responsible for preparing your own daily schedule within the parameters of the job contracts. 

You may also be asked to serve as a fill-in during a transition period for Ag Services, LLC customers. As a Safety Consultant, you will also be expected to sell services and make cold calls to insured customers and non-insured companies and work with the Director of Safety and Compliance to ensure the overall success of the department.  You will also be tasked with working closely with various insurance agents for new and retained business.

It is imperative that a Safety Consultant be able to multi-task and remain organized throughout the various companies consulted.  A successful Safety Consultant would be a highly motivated and effective communicator, both verbal and written.  The Safety Consultant will occasionally have discussions with upper management of our customers and occasionally boards of directors. 

This position reports to the Director of Safety & Compliance.

What You Will Need to Do This Job:

A bachelor’s degree or

Relative equivalent experience and a Professional Safety Designation (or the ability to obtain within 12 months)

A willingness to continue education.

A willingness to obtain the ability to meet the requirements of an OSHA Outreach Training Program Trainer.

The ability to communicate effectively with customer employees, managers, and senior management as well as boards of directors.  This includes both verbal and written communication.

Be persuasive when making recommendations and not get discouraged by pushbacks from the company.

The ability to communicate effectively within our organization and with regulatory agencies.

Ability to coach customer safety directors.

Highly organized work tasks, schedules, and account information.

Ability to prioritize items in terms of urgency and importance.

Sell safety services to continuing customers as well as creating and prospecting new customers.

Teach various regional classes such as HAZWOPER, KGFA & KARA seminars, and OSHA 10 or 30 hours.

The ability to speak in front of groups comfortably and effectively.

Possess the mechanical aptitude and working knowledge to understand and to be able to recommend improvements to each facility of an account. 

Investigate accidents and recommend corrective action.

Research regulations and be able to interpret them in an effective manner to communicate those same rules in layman terms to clients.

Maintain a strong sense of urgency.

Continually utilize laptops, tablets, and other technologies as they become available.

The ability to travel 70-85% of the time, day travel with around 50% of travel involving overnights.

All other duties as assigned by management.

This position is regularly exposed to travel in a vehicle, office settings, and exposure to outdoor conditions.  Long periods of sitting are required.  Employees may need to regularly lift up to 25 pounds and frequently up to 50 pounds.  The position also has the potential for exposure to various agronomy chemicals including anhydrous ammonia as well as airborne dust and grain dust.  The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
