Claims Specialist - Hutchinson, KS Office

A Day in the Life:

As a Claims Specialist you will spend a typical workday analyzing and providing information and updates to customers relating to insurance claims with a varying degree of complexity. The Claims Specialist must be able to understand a wide variety of business industries including agribusiness, farming, main street commercial operations, and trucking. This includes a general knowledge of the various laws and regulations that are spelled out for each industry and the specific insurance coverages that would fit their businesses.

You will also work closely with Insurance Sales Account Managers/Producers and Customer Service Agents (CSA), and Safety & Compliance professionals within ProValue, and aid them in working with customers to ensure they have a seamless and professional experience. This position works professionally with all departments and needs to work cohesively as a team. The Claims Specialist must exude a positive attitude and be flexible in their job performance, ideally with a servicing mindset and eagerness to support others.

Daily, you will be responsible for carrier and customer claims data analysis to determine claim trends and utilize this important information to provide information to customers in the attempt to lessen their respective future claims.  You will also be responsible for assisting clients and carriers with timely and optimal resolution of claims. Participation in client meetings (new business, claim review, renewal, etc.) requires superior communication and relationship building skills.

The Claims Specialist position requires exceptional self-organization skills, including the ability to efficiently prioritize and maintain proper documentation along the process. Multi-tasking is a regular day to day function. This position requires you to have a sense of urgency to complete daily tasks relating to customer’s needs and requests. One of your most important responsibilities and priorities is to develop excellent relationships with customers, and carrier claims representatives and be able to identify the uniqueness the carriers bring to the table.

This position reports to the Vice President of Claims Management.

What You’ll Need to Do This Job:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; an Associate’s degree is highly desired.
  • Successful professional work history that includes at least five years of experience in an office environment directly-related to the job responsibilities detailed above.
  • Have or be willing to obtain the appropriate insurance licenses. Maintaining necessary continuing education requirements and have the desire and ability to pursue professional designations, if approved.
  • Strong analytical skillset.
  • Superior written and oral communications skills, with the ability to prepare reports and conduct presentations.
  • All ProValue employees are expected to conduct business in an ethical manner and be a person of the highest integrity and honesty.
  • Very dependable with a high sense of urgency. Abstract reasoning and problem-solving ability.
  • Quality data entry and the ability to use and understand technology including a computer, smart phone, tablet and various software programs and applications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products required (specifically Excel, Power Point and Access).
  • Diligently maintain the Agency Management System’s integrity.
  • The ability to create and maintain strong client and carrier relationships.
  • This position generally works in an office environment but is occasionally exposed to outdoor conditions or other locations. Long periods of sitting, standing and computer work are required. The ability to speak, hear, and type is also required. You will regularly lift 20 pounds or less.
  • This position will travel up to 20-25% of the time. Mostly day travel with an occasional overnight stay.
  • Extended working hours are required on occasion due to client meetings or industry functions. This could begin well before the workday and may extend to the evening, sometimes making a working day 10-12 hours.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license is required.
  • This position will also be required to perform other duties as assigned by management.
