Chief Financial Officer | Skyland Grain LLC

An opportunity is available for a Chief Financial Officer to be based out of Cunningham, KS or Ulysses, KS. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide finance expertise, accounting knowledge, and strategic support to the business by developing driver based financial plans and drawing conclusions and sharing the insights with business leaders. The ideal candidate must be able to leverage their finance skills and experience to effectively partner with and support the CEO, as well as executive management and operations leadership. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, as well as strong leadership and team building skills are a must. This will be a highly visible leader and a valued business partner. This role will propel actions that improve financial performance: operational resilience, productivity, differentiation, and technology transformation.

Financial Operations:

  • Direct financial strategy and assess Skyland Grain financial performance against annual and long-term plans
  • Outward facing senior executive on all things financial (lenders and all financial related activities)
  • Work with CEO to define and communicate the business strategy to the Board of Directors
  • Help drive effective board meetings as well as manage internal communications
  • Provides executive leadership to the Accounting and Finance team

Risk Management:

  • Manage risks associated with cash, capital & compliance
  • Identify and address financial risks and opportunities for the company
  • Negotiate, in conjunction with COO, all commercial insurance policies and associated premium costs

Accounting Authority:

  • Oversee Skyland Grain fiscal activity including budgeting, reporting, tax, and auditing
  • Direct the reporting and interpretation of financial information to support business leaders and Board in reaching logical decisions consistent with strategic objectives
  • Work closely with Audit committee

Banking and Treasury:

  • Oversee Treasury function
  • Define and manage banking relationships and best practices

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Lead annual strategic planning cycle and build the business plan, including operating, capital and financial components
  • Provide financial advice and recommendation to business leaders and Board regarding strategic planning, analysis, working capital, costs and productivity

Systems and Technology: Support and advance the use of technology and systems

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • 15+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles. Recent experience at the CFO/Finance Director/Controller level is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with high personal integrity
  • Effective verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Understanding of, or experience with, agricultural commodity business and co-operative accounting preferred
  • Working knowledge of how to raise capital outside traditional lines of credit
  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning
  • Experience in managing organizational change, building high performing teams, and communicating proactively to advance strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in hiring, developing, managing, coaching, and mentoring financial and controlling teams for high performance results.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment with multiple, changing and competing priorities
  • Results and continuous improvement oriented; ability to drive initiatives and lead changes
  • Strong problem solving skills with a proactive and pragmatic approach
  • Some travel, both daytime and overnight, is required
  • Positive, ‘can do’, hands on attitude
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
